Recently I've found myself questioning what my blogs 'niche' is. At the moment I'm not sure if it has one. It represents the swirling thoughts and inspirations that I shelve in my mind. It is a weekly, sometimes daily, compendium of mismatched thoughts and inspiration boards. I have unwittingly taken my blog along the personal journal path rather than finding a key subject and crafting each post around it. 9 months in and I'm still 'finding' my subject. I've found my writing style, it's just the element that sets me apart that I'm trying to find.

Have you guessed what this week's word is? I found this word whilst reading a definition for another word. Is it terrible when you have to look up the words in a definition of a word!? Perhaps I need a simpler dictionary. Nevertheless, I'm already overusing this word...

compendium

noun
a collection of concise but detailed information about a particular subject, especially in a publication

  1. I think because I don't have a niche [other then being an English blogger in Detroit] my blog floats around and doesn't really expand in the way many blogs do. Sometimes I think I need to just home in on just say blogging about Detroit or vintage stuff or crafts but then i'd get too bored just blogging about the same thing constantly. It is a struggle though.

    1. I think you have a niche...I would say you write about finding your way in another country, vintage finds (you are quickly becoming the thrift queen), with the odd political or passionate post!
I know what you mean about trying to stick to a particular subject, sometimes I'm not inspired to write the post typical of my blog and have a inspiration to write something a little off the wall. Keep at Rachael, I really think your blog has found it's way!

  2. I'm afraid it's kind of true, at least judging from my blog. I write about what I want, which happens to be mostly music, fashion, feminism, food, and maybe politics. It doesn't have much of a following because it has no single focus. But then, neither do I. :)

Really what I should probably do is write separate blogs. Maybe each would do better on its own!

    1. Interesting point! Imagining trying to keep all those up!...I find it difficult with one sometimes.

  3. As a reader of your blog from the start, I can really see how much it has evolved and I think a niche does come through. In my opinion you write a personal/lifestyle blog which touches on fashion, beauty and design also.

The main thing I like about your blog (and what I think sets it apart from others) is that your 'dreamer' personality really shines through. Some people don't have these qualities and for me you provide thoughtful and pensive posts which allow me to discover my 'dreamer'.

Keep posting from the heart and we will keep reading.

    1. Thank you Claire *said with beaming smile.
I do hope that that comes across, although I don't mind if it doesn't have a 'niche' a list of things it is known for works for me too :)
I think I've found it difficult to stick to a particular subject as moving abroad has meant that hobbies and activities I devoted all my time to disappeared so there isn't a flow of material from one subject, rather a number, depending on what I'm doing...if that makes sense.

Thank you for your lovely words x
