a subscription box with a unique twist

Are you or have you, subscribed to a monthly box? Whether it be beauty, craft or stationary, subscription boxes are taking the world by storm. With many independent start-up companies offering subscribers a box of surprising treasures every month for a very reasonable fee.

Thanks to a twitter follow from JewelBox I discovered Joyce's unique and exclusive box offering. Joyce designs and hand makes beautiful pieces that are unique to the customer based on a set of questions they are asked to answer. Being that each piece going into a box is individually attended to means that you receive a one of a kind, lovingly hand crafted piece of jewelry.

In love with Joyce's concept, I asked if she would tell me more about JewelBox;

For those who have not come across JewelBox before, tell us what it is all about and where you got your inspiration to start this venture?

JewelBox was something that I wanted to provide to people after observing, and being a part of, the subscription box craze. I've been making handmade jewelry for a while, and I noticed that people really enjoyed having a special something for themselves. I thought, how fun would it be if there was a service like this for people!

What sort of surprises can we expect in the boxes? Do you have a theme each month that you work by?

Each box is different, and even more customized to the customer than any other service. You answer a few short questions on our style quiz, then choose which box you think you are! Easy as that. Each month I'm inspired by something, a material, a look, a trend, a color, I really let this guide my decision on what I make each month.

a sneak peak of what you can expect

Where did your talent for making jewelry start?

I started making jewelry a couple years ago, I work as a graphic designer for a living, so I wanted something that was more tactile, something I could do with my hands. I've always been very inspired by jewelry, and wanted to create a line for myself and others that people enjoyed.

Do you have big plans for JewelBox?

I really would like JewelBox to expand into other things, like beauty and DIY. I'm working on some behind the scenes creations right now that I'm thinking about introducing soon! :) I also would like to promote other artist and crafters who would like to be a part of it all!

Crafting has seen a huge revival in the past few years, with Etsy making it easier to sell products and blogging helping to get your message out. What has your experience of the craft and blogging world been like?

The crafting and blogging world have been a great positive platform for me, it's like "wow, I'm not alone!" I love connecting with people and sharing creations with those who do the same. It's wonderful that there's such a community and people who are crafters themselves! I love people who embrace creativity and turn it into a business.

And finally, what advice would you give to others thinking about turning their creative pursuits into a business?

My best advice would be don't be afraid! There's always going to be trial and error, and not everything going to be perfect the first time. If you love what you do, and it makes you happy, go with it! You never know where it could lead you. :)

Be sure to visit JewelBox here. Boxes are usually priced at $15, although JewelBox is currently running a $5 off promotion. The next shipping date is the 21st August so subscribe before they sell out for this month!

JewelBox would make such a pretty gift for a girlfriend, colleague or simply for yourself. What I love about JewelBox is that it is so reasonably priced, much more so than some high street stores (not naming names) AND it's specially made with you in mind. You'll be hard to find a brand that offers the same quality and unique charm as JewelBox.
