I was one of the unfortunate teenagers who had bad skin, frizzy curly hair that I couldn't work out how to mange, and a brace, to finish it off. Many a tear and trip to the doctors were had to try to find something that would ease my skin problem. The resolution ended up being "growing out of it." Well sort of.
A couple of years ago a friend recommended that I try microdermabrasion to help reduce the appearance of my pores. Although it doesn't sound it, it is a very relaxing treatment. A very small vacuum nozzle is put on the skin, sucks up impurities to the surface then shoots very fine crystals on to the area of skin. This exfoliates area and is then sucked away with the impurities into a different part of the machine. The beautician takes their time to apply this treatment to all of your face, neck and the top of your chest. The top layer of dead skin is gently removed and healing process makes way for new skin cells that appear much brighter and feel so much softer. The process can also help to reduce the appearance of fine lines, blemishes and sun damage.
I kept up microdermabrasion for nearly 2 years. They recommend about 6 sessions a year. In this time my skin did improve although not to the standard or as drastically as I had hoped. I think this treatment is better suited to mature skin as it is brilliant for reduce the appearance of fine lines. I might go back for treatments in a few years time. For my pores though - perhaps they are just too deep to cure!
Out of this experience though I was introduced to md formulations. In between facials I used Vit-A-Plus Illuminating Masque to keep my skin hydrated. I have continued using this ever since. I can't sing it's praises high enough. It's suitable for everyday use, although I tend to only pull it out when my skin gets dry in the winter or on weeks like this when my skin is awful!
This product reduces redness and evens up your skin tone, makes your skin feel beautifully soft, moisturises, tones and smells amazing! It generally makes your skin feel a whole load healthier. I use it just before going to bed as the lavender scent is great to help make you feel relaxed. It lasts ages too as you only need a very small amount to apply just a thin layer over your face and neck.
In the summer I also use the md formulations Total Protector Colour SPF30 Light Tint suncream. This is a natural product and is recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation. I find that ordinary suncream is too oily and increases the appearance of blemishes. I like to wear minimal makeup when away so using ordinary suncream makes this difficult as I am constantly covering up blemishes. The md formulations suncream also has a light tint to it to. So if you do like to wear make up on the beach this saves you having to apply a layer of foundation too! Like the Illuminating Masque above, this product lasts ages! I had it for 2 consecutive years and took it on all my holidays. This was shared whilst on holiday. It seemed everyone else wanted to use it too!

Have you ever had microdermabrasion or would you think about having this treatment? (I had my treatment at The Retreat in Kent and would really recommend them.) Or do you use any of the products from md formulations? If so which products would you recommend?
